Job Description
**Jr. Asset Underwriter**
**Job Overview:**
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated **Jr. Asset Underwriter** to join our team. This role operates within the express swim lane process and requires a strong understanding of risk management beyond just applying data to a set of guidelines. The ideal candidate will be comfortable analyzing and forming opinions on loans both verbally and in writing. This dual role combines processing and underwriting for a subset of non-complex loans.
As a Jr. Asset Underwriter, you will manage a high-volume loan pipeline while collaborating with internal teams and third-party vendors—including escrow, title, and insurance—to ensure loans close on time and in compliance. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and have a keen eye for risk assessment, we encourage you to apply.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Oversee and manage a high-volume loan pipeline, ensuring timely and compliant loan closures.
- Coordinate with third-party vendors to place and track orders within designated SLAs.
- Conduct quality control on all received documents and maintain accurate records in the internal loan processing system.
- Review and verify transactional documents such as title commitments, purchase contracts, escrow instructions, deeds, and closing statements. Familiarity with non-traditional transactions like double escrows and auction purchases is a plus.
- Assess documentation related to Bridge, Renovation, and Ground-Up Construction loans, including budgets, permits, and certificates of occupancy.
- Identify and set conditions required for loan funding in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
- Analyze loan metrics, ratios, and percentages to understand their impact on asset credit ratings.
- Coordinate with title companies and third parties to resolve lien-related issues.
- Prepare and submit complete loan files for final underwriting review.
- Maintain and update internal loan processing systems with essential data and documentation.
- Act as a liaison between sales, underwriting, borrowers, and closing agents to facilitate seamless loan closings.
- Review and ensure all prior-to-doc, prior-to-funding, and post-closing conditions meet underwriting policies.
- Apply analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve issues that may not have predefined solutions.
- Manage high-pressure situations near funding deadlines while maintaining clear communication.
- Provide excellent customer service before, during, and after loan closings.
**Qualifications & Experience:**
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of experience in mortgage loan processing OR 2-3 years in underwriting/credit analysis within a commercial banking setting.
- Experience in private money lending, underwriting, or construction finance is a plus.
- Strong understanding of underwriting and loan funding processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to handle complex issues requiring logical decision-making and sound judgment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to change.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of the loan pipeline without constant oversight.
**Additional Information:**
This is an **on-site** position, as certain responsibilities require in-person collaboration, oversight, and training. Candidates must be willing to work in an office setting.
**Equal Employment Opportunity:**
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
